Statement of the Anti-War Committee on the events in Kursk Oblast August 6, for the first time since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian troops crossed the Russian border in Kursk region. We view this move as Ukraine exercising its right to self-defense and retaliatory actions under conditions of the ongoing large-scale invasion on a sovereign state by Putin’s troops. The absence of any significant military units of the Russian Federation on the border at the time of the attack, and the simultaneous continuous conduct of aggressive military actions for more than 900 days on the territory of sovereign Ukraine is the best proof that Putin again is lying about “protecting Russia”. He does not care about Russia, he is only protecting himself. We are sorry that Russian citizens suffered from military actions, but we must remember that the cause of this suffering is the aggressive war unleashed by Putin. We believe that the Ukrainian army, unlike its enemy, will comply with the Geneva Convention and make every effort to limit harm to non-combatants.
